Welcome to the WIP for my next project – the 00 Qan[T] from the 00 Gundam movie – A wakening of the Trailblazer.
I chose this kit as I wanted something easy to build. This is a newer kit which surprisingly comes in a small size box, so there’s alot less parts to paint and work with, there’s no Gundam head mod to worry about and everything is colour correct.
At one point I was really tempted to get the GN Sword V add-on for this kit. You can find these on eBay for around $30-40 AUD. In the end I decided against it as it somewhat takes away from the unique look of the Qan[T] and makes it look too much like the 00 Raiser/Seven Sword. (Maybe that’s just my way of making myself feel better for being so cheap :O )
As with the Strike Gundam, I’ve gone the shortcut route of using a grey base. This was mixed using White + Navy Blue + some Neutral Grey. This step took about 1 hour to spray all of the white parts.
White parts after shaded with pure white. This step took 2 hours.
Here’s the shield binder with the base coat…
And after the white has been applied.
Because the base coat I used this time was a bit darker than the one I used on the Strike, one coat of white wasn’t enough to fully cover the parts and the result is the parts still look a bit bluish. I’ll need to do another coat of white to brighten it up some more 🙁
White parts after a final coat of white is applied. Keep in mind this is under a 6500K light so it looks much brighter in the picture than it actually is.
Here are the blue parts painted for the Qan[T]. These parts were done using a base coat of Blue + Black, followed by the starter white technique. A combination of Cobalt Blue, Sky Blue, Bright Blue, and Fluro pink was then used to lightly coat the parts for the shading effect.
However this didn’t turn out as bright as I wanted to, so I added white to the mixture and sprayed more highlights.
I kinda wish I put a bit more Cobalt Blue in the mixture. Not 100% happy and tempted to Windex and restart…however also don’t really feel motivated to.
Next time – grey parts and internals.
